According to Celia Lastra, the councilor for Social Action, since its establishment in Granada in 2021, the UAPO Foundation has revolutionized the complementary treatment of cancer through a multidisciplinary approach that integrates physical exercise, physiotherapy, nutrition, and psychology free of charge. The goal is to improve the quality of life of oncology patients through evidence-based treatment.
Lastra has explained that in the last year, 13,000 new cases of cancer have been diagnosed in the province, including 40 cases of childhood cancer, and Alicante is the fourth province with the highest cancer incidence in Spain. Additionally, 60,000 family members are affected by the impact of diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
Currently, the UAPO Foundation serves over a thousand people at its four locations in Granada, Madrid, Malaga, and Elche, providing free and personalized treatment to patients of all ages and with over 26 types of cancer. «Given this reality, the presence of UAPO in Elche is not just an opportunity, but a social and moral necessity,» Lastra pointed out.
