A total of 24 productions with the participation of the Comunitat Valenciana will be screened in the various sections of the 28th Malaga Film Festival. Specifically, there are six fiction feature films, six documentaries, and 12 Valencian short films.
The Conselleria de Educación, Cultura, Universidades y Empleo, through the Institut Valencià de Cultura (IVC), has highlighted its promotion of the participation of professionals and audiovisual productions from Valencia in this event, as stated by the Generalitat in a press release.
Álvaro López-Jamar, the director general of the IVC, has emphasized «the enormous quality and diversity of the productions with Valencian participation that are being screened in the various sections of the Malaga Festival.»
«Undoubtedly, Valencian audiovisual has gained a lot of presence in this edition, as we have gone from 14 selected productions in both 2023 and 2024 to 24 in 2025, representing a 71 percent increase compared to the last two editions. Of these 24 productions, 10 have received production grants from the Institut Valencià de Cultura,» he detailed.
On the other hand, Vicente Ordaz, the president of the Corporación Audiovisual de la Comunitat Valenciana, stated that the Malaga Festival «is an ideal showcase for the eight productions supported by À Punt to have a greater national and international impact, especially in Ibero-America.» He added that À Punt «will continue to support the creative audiovisual talent of the Comunitat Valenciana, in which 3,150,000 euros were invested in 2024.»
In this way, Valencian audiovisual will be present at the 28th edition of the Malaga Film Festival with 24 productions that can be seen in the different sections of the festival. Of the 12 feature films with Valencian participation presented, six are fiction and six are documentaries.
In the short film section, 12 works have been selected: five fiction, four documentaries, and three animations. Of the presented productions, ten have received grants from the IVC.
FEATURE FILMS IN COMPETITION
In the Official Section of Feature Films in competition, ‘La buena letra’ stands out, directed by Celia Rico Clavellino and produced by Fernando Bovaira for Misent Producciones, MOD Producciones, and Arcadia Motion Pictures. It has production grants from the IVC, participation from À Punt, RTVE, Movistar Plus+, and 3cat, and funding from the Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales (ICAA) and the Institut Català de les Empreses Culturals (ICEC).
Based on the novel by Rafael Chirbes, it stars Loreto Mauleón, Enric Auquer, Roger Casamajor, Ana Rujas, and Valencian actresses Teresa Lozano, Gloria March, and Sofía Puerta.
Also in the Official Section in competition is ‘Una quinta portuguesa’, written and directed by Valencian Avelina Prat, produced by Distinto Films in co-production with Jaibo Films from Alicante, O Som e a Fúria from Portugal, and Almendros Blancos AIE. With grants from the IVC, it also features the participation of À Punt, RTVE, 3Cat, and Televisión de Portugal, as well as support from ICAA, ICEC, and the Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual (ICA) from Portugal.
Also participating is ‘La terra negra’, directed by Valencian Alberto Morais, written in collaboration with Samuel del Amor from Alicante, and produced by Valencian Olivo Films in co-production with Elamedia, Dexiderius, and Garra. It features a diverse cast of Valencian actors, including Abdelatif Hwidar, Rosana Pastor, Álvaro Báguena, María Albiñana, Toni Misó, and Bruno Tamarit. The film has received grants from the IVC and the participation of À Punt.
Rounding out the Official Section in Competition is ‘Todo lo que no sé’, written and directed by Ana Lambarri and produced by Carlos Guerrero from Elche for 39 Escalones Films, in co-production with Naif Films, The Other Film, and Robot Productions.
OUT OF COMPETITION
On the other hand, in the Official Section out of competition is ‘Pequeños calvarios’, directed by Javier Polo and produced by Pequeños Calvarios AIE, Los Hermanos Polo, and Japónica Films, in co-production with Paloma Negra Films from Mexico and OMA Inge Films from Germany.
This film has grants from the IVC, participation from À Punt, and funding from the ICAA. Written by David Pascual, Enric Pardo, and Guillermo Guerrero, ‘Pequeños calvarios’ is a dark comedy set in Benicàssim, with a diverse cast including Arturo Valls, Enrique Arce, Berta Vázquez, Andrea Duro, Pablo Molinero, Vito Sanz, Rubén Bernal, and comedian Javier Coronas.
Also in the Official Section out of competition is ‘Enemigos’, directed by Alicante’s David Valero and written by Valero in collaboration with Alfonso Amador. The film is produced by Atípica Films and Amazon MGM Studios, with a standout performance by Orihuela’s Luna Pamies.
DOCUMENTARIES
On the other hand, in the Official Section in competition for feature-length documentaries, ‘On eres quan hi eres?’ is presented, a biographical documentary about the Alcoy singer Ovidi Montllor, directed by Jana Montllor Blanes, produced by La Selva Ecosistema Creatiu, La Cima Producciones, and Odessa Films, with the participation of À Punt.
Among the special documentary screenings is ‘La festa’, directed by Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón and Elche’s Pablo Mas, and produced by Elche’s MásPelículas, with grants from the IVC.
Also screening are ‘Berlanga. Fanáticamente contradictorio’, directed by José Luis Berlanga and produced by Estela Producciones Cinematográficas, with the participation of Arturo Valls; and ‘Dolores Ibárruri. La Pasionaria’, written and directed by Valencian Amparo Climent and produced by Bowfinger International Pictures and Pasionaria AIE.
Also featured are the music documentaries ‘La guitarra flamenca de Yerai Cortés’ directed by Antón Álvarez (C. Tangana) and produced by Little Spain, about the guitarist from Alicante Yerai Cortés; and ‘Solo pienso en ti’ directed by Hugo de la Riva and produced by Elche’s Carlos Guerrero for 39 Escalones, about the singer Víctor Manuel. The documentary screenings conclude with the short film ‘Radiografías’ directed by Alicante’s Adán Aliaga.
SHORT FILMS IN COMPETITION
In the Official Section of short fiction films in competition, ‘Sucre’ directed by Claudia Cedó and produced by Suica Films, with grants from the IVC; ‘Insalvable’, directed by Alicante’s Javier Marco and produced by Langosta Films; ‘Cólera’ directed by José Luis Lázaro and produced by Aire de Cinema and Wicker Films, with grants from the IVC; ‘Abril’ directed by Alexandra Iglesias from Jávea; and ‘Maruja’ directed by Alicante’s Álvaro G. Company and produced by Elche’s Grupoidex.
In Animazine, the animation section, three Valencian-produced shorts with IVC grants have been selected: ‘La valla’, directed by Sam Ortí and produced by Conflictivo Productions; ‘Carmela’, directed by Vicente Mallols and produced by Pangur Animation; and ‘Buffet Paraíso’, directed by Héctor Zafra and Santi Amézqueta and produced by Hampa Studio.
Finally, in the section affirming women’s rights, short films ‘Aminata. Multiplicadores de la salud’, directed by Marta López Plaza and Eduardo Peiró Porcel and produced by Llavors Films; ‘Casting’, directed by Valencian Victor Devesa; and ‘Victoria planetaria’, directed by Alcoy’s Mariola Olcina Alvarado are presented.
