Fashion Cinema homenajea a Paco Delgado con tres exposiciones y una masterclass

The ‘CuerpoNoticiav2’ div itemprop=»articleBody» will showcase how footwear also tells stories on the big screen. The third edition of Fashion Cinema, a section of the Alicante Film Festival dedicated to fashion and film costumes, pays tribute to renowned designer Paco Delgado and offers three exhibitions, two round tables, and a masterclass in addition to the screening of the film ‘The Danish Girl.’

The Councilor for Tourism, Ana Poquet, the director of the Alicante Film Festival, Vicente Seva, and the coordinator of Fashion Cinema, Rosario Puñales, presented the program of Fashion Cinema on Wednesday, which will take place at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante MACA, as reported by the municipality in a statement.

Poquet highlighted the level of this edition of Fashion Cinema, stating that it allows us to delve into the world of fashion and costumes, essential to convey the atmosphere and emotions in any production, and that it makes us dream when it unfolds all its creativity.

«Furthermore, once again, Fashion Cinema manages to bring together prominent and interesting figures from this field from whom we can learn the intricacies of costume creation, such as Paco Delgado and representatives of the shoe industry in our province through talks and exhibitions,» explained the councilor.

The Tourism Board Alicante City & Beach reaffirmed its support for the Alicante Film Festival and its different sections, aligned with the city’s tourism strategy that promotes screen tourism, according to Poquet.

The program will serve as a showcase to explore the legacy and influence of the renowned costume designer Paco Delgado, nominated for the Oscar and Bafta awards and winner of a Goya, through exhibitions and interactive activities that will allow us to get closer to his creative process and his impact on contemporary cinema.

The activities will take place between May 20 and 23, while the exhibitions can be visited until June 1.

Seva pointed out that this section allows «to give visibility to the work of costumes in cinema.»

«This edition, with the collaboration of prominent names from the film, fashion, and footwear industries, allows us to continue betting on a fundamental part of the cinematographic creative process. We are proud to have the participation of Paco Delgado, one of the most recognized designers in the industry, and to show the public his impressive work,» he expressed.

On her part, Rosario Puñales expressed her delight in being able to carry out this new edition of Fashion Cinema. «This year, paying tribute to Paco Delgado is a way to highlight the meticulous and artistic work he does to bring characters to life through costumes. The response from the public and professionals in the sector has been incredible, and we hope that this edition will be even more successful than the previous one,» she added.

PROGRAM

Within the Fashion Cinema program, three exhibitions will be held at MACA. The first one, titled ‘Footprints of Cinema,’ pays tribute to Paco Delgado and his outstanding work in films like ‘Les Misérables,’ ‘The Danish Girl,’ and ‘Blancanieves.’

This exhibition, in collaboration with the Museum of Footwear in Elda, presents a collection of shoes inspired by his most iconic films, showing how footwear also tells stories on the big screen.

The second exhibition, ‘From Screen to Mannequin,’ includes three dresses inspired by Paco Delgado’s creations for these films. These dresses, made by Tatiana Furukina, director of the Art Costura school, bring characters from the films to life, inviting attendees on a textile journey through the art of storytelling through costumes.

The third exhibition, ‘Paco Delgado: The Character’s Trace,’ allows visitors to delve into the designer’s creative process through his sketches. The exhibition, carried out by students from IES El Pla, reveals how drawing and color become key elements in building characters and the emotions they convey on the screen.

Fashion Cinema activities will begin on Tuesday, May 20, at 6:00 p.m. with the round table ‘Dressing Cinema: Perspective from styling, technique, and the mark left by fashion brands.’ The discussion will address cinematographic costumes from various perspectives, the work of styling, the technical aspects behind each garment, and the influence of fashion brands on the screen. Prominent professionals in the sector such as Natalia Bengoechea, stylist and fashion project developer; Alejandro Navas, audiovisual costume technician; and José Antonio Molla, founder and CEO of fashion and footwear brands will participate. The table will be moderated by Manuela Laguna, director of the fashion communication agency Manela Laguna.

On Wednesday, May 21, at 6:00 p.m., the masterclass ‘The Influence of Costumes: The Power of Personal Image’ will take place. The designer Darsy will explore how costumes can influence the construction of personal image and how we communicate with the world. The class will address the power of design to tell stories, define identities, and transform perceptions.

On Thursday, May 22, at 6:00 p.m., it will be the turn of the round table ‘Author’s Footsteps: Creativity, Industry, and Cinema in the World of Footwear.’ This meeting will bring together professionals in footwear design and manufacturing to discuss the role of footwear as a creative object, industrial product, and narrative element in cinema. Participants will include Vicente Pastor, president of the Ficia Foundation; Carmen García, business development manager of Chie Mihara; and Pepe Amat, creative director of Magrit shoes. The table will be moderated by Andrea Paños, director of the Museum of Footwear in Elda.

Fashion Cinema activities will conclude on Friday, May 23, at 5:30 p.m. with the screening of the film ‘The Danish Girl,’ for which Paco Delgado was nominated for the Oscar and Bafta awards for his costume design. The designer will receive the Fashion Cinema Award during the closing gala of the Festival, which will take place on Saturday, May 24, at 8:00 p.m. at the Teatro Principal in Alicante.
