Alicante, June 30, 2025. The Blue Hall of the City Hall of Alicante hosted the institutional commemoration event of Pride Day this Monday, culminating in the display of the LGTBI banner. The event saw speeches from the Government spokesperson, Cristina Cutanda, the Councilor for Social Welfare, Begoña León, and representatives from the Alicante Entiende, Diversitat, and Entendemos LGTBI associations, with several members of the Municipal Corporation in attendance.
Councilor for Social Welfare, Begoña León, emphasized that with the celebration of this institutional event at the City Hall, «we come together to make visible and celebrate something that goes beyond flags, colors, or dates; we celebrate the right to be oneself and the value of those who, for years, have had to walk in silence, hiding their truth until one day they said ‘enough’ and ‘here I am'». Alicante, she highlighted, «is a diverse, joyful, open city, and we must ensure that all people feel part of it, without exceptions or conditions.»
On the other hand, Government spokesperson, Cristina Cutanda, stated that Pride Day is «a day of advocacy, visibility, but above all, of love, pride, and freedom», where we gather «not only to celebrate but also to remember the struggle and achievements we have made together in defending the rights and dignity of all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, to boldly state that love has no gender, that human rights are universal, and that we will continue to work to build a more just and inclusive society, because diversity enriches our lives and makes us stronger.»
Representatives from the Alicante Entiende, Chari Fructuosa; Diversitat, Juan David Santiago; and Entendemos LGTBI; Lydia Na associations, coincided in highlighting that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the milestone of the approval of same-sex marriage, thanking activists who have fought to defend the rights of the LGTBIQ+ community for this and other achievements.
Following the speeches, the commemorative Pride Day banner was displayed. Tonight, the City Hall building will be illuminated with the representative colors of the community, as will the Luceros fountain, with alternating colors.
Additionally, Alicante is set to celebrate Pride Week between July 12 and 19, with a wide range of sports, festive, and cultural activities, culminating in a demonstration, manifesto reading, and party at the City Hall square on the 19th.
