The Minister of Environment, Vicente Martínez Mus, details that the regeneration project of Serra Grossa, in collaboration with the City Council, will reconcile the protection of the natural landmark with its sports and leisure use
Alicante, June 9, 2025. The Councilor for Urban Planning, Rocío Gómez, highlighted on Monday the «considerable progress of the works at the TRAM Central Station» and thanked the Generalitat for the «constant coordination with the City Council for the execution of these actions.» Works that were visited this morning by the President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, the Minister of Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, and the Councilor for Mobility, Carlos de Juan. «Soon we will be able to detail all the progress we have made to achieve this important intermodal hub for the city and the province; because we are not only talking about the station, but also about the intermodality that the city and its metropolitan area need,» added the councilor.
President Mazón has announced that the Consell will open an alternative public parking lot at the Adif station in Alicante on June 18 with 204 parking spaces, which, together with the uninterrupted TRAM service between June 20 and 25, will facilitate travel during the Hogueras festival and reduce polluting emissions.
The head of the Consell has explained that the new spaces, eight of them adapted, «add to the 420 already available at Adif, so Alicante residents and visitors will have 624 parking spaces to access the city more comfortably and enjoy the festivities.»
He also emphasized that the Consell will offer an uninterrupted TRAM service from June 20 to the early hours of June 25, «120 hours of continuous service day and night that we are launching for the second time in history after the extraordinary reception the initiative had last year.»
Central Station
Carlos Mazón has also highlighted the progress of the works at the future Central Station, where «work is being done tirelessly and progressing at a good pace,» so the planned 52-month execution period is maintained, and it will be completed by the end of 2027 or early 2028.
The head of the Consell stressed that the Generalitat has invested 102 million euros in a station that «will be pioneering, unique, and a reference in Europe.» A project, he added, that will create a large intermodal hub «where the train, tram, AVE, and buses, both urban, metropolitan, and intercity, will converge, giving a new configuration to the city and the province.»
With the opening of the new parking lot, the two parking areas will be internally connected, and the current vehicle access from Avenida Aguilera via Calle Alcalde Rafael Millá Santos will remain operational.
After the festivities, a further portion of the existing parking lot will be occupied to continue with the construction of the pile screens on Avenida Salamanca. These works will continue throughout 2025 and will allow, on the one hand, the excavation of the station box itself, and on the other hand, the tunnel under the avenue that will provide continuity to the infrastructure already built, which is part of the Luceros station.
This phase of the works for the future communications hub began in January at the main access to the Adif station parking lot, from Avenida Salamanca, so it was also necessary to reconfigure pedestrian accesses and vehicle stops for station users.
The Generalitat has planned to provide 500 parking spaces this summer to serve visitors and tourists arriving in the city during peak season. Towards the end of summer, another 100 spaces will be occupied, and the vehicle access to the parking lot will be modified, diverting it through Calle Médico Pedro Herrero.
The project includes the construction of a 72-meter tunnel section, connecting with the infrastructure already built under Avenida de la Estación and the new underground central station, which will have access points, lobbies, and a platform housing platforms and four tracks.
Regeneration of Serra Grossa
On the other hand, the Minister of Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, announced on Tuesday that the Generalitat, in collaboration with the Alicante City Council, is promoting the regeneration of Serra Grosa with a public-private partnership project that will renew trails and signage «to enhance a key area for Alicante.»
This was confirmed during their participation in the Civic Forum organized by the Información de Alicante newspaper, where, together with the regional secretary of the Environment, Raúl Mérida, they stated that «they are working on a very careful and respectful project that seeks the regeneration of the existing vegetation, its enhancement, and the protection of the territory, facilitating the conservation of biodiversity and birdwatching.»
In addition, the minister detailed that the intervention in Serra Grossa will also be compatible with «sports and leisure use, as many people visit this area daily, located next to the Quarry, between the beaches of Postiguet and Albufereta, for these activities.»
The public-private agreement to develop the «landscaping project» will include, among other actions, the renovation of trails and the installation of informative signage. It also includes the regeneration of existing vegetation with the same or native species, as well as the installation of several viewpoints.
