
Alicante launches the Father’s Day campaign ‘Whatever you’re looking for, it’s in your local store’ which promotes and gives visibility to local commerce.
Alicante, March 10, 2025. The City Council of Alicante organizes, on the occasion of ‘International Consumer Rights Day’, two training and informative days on March 13 and 14, with activities, workshops, and conferences, through its Educational Resource Center for Consumption – Cerca-, which will take place in the municipal building of Puerta Ferrisa in the morning with free entry. Also, this week, the Father’s Day campaign ‘Whatever you’re looking for, it’s in your local store’ is launched to promote and give visibility to local commerce.
The central commemorative event for Consumer Day will take place on Saturday, March 15, in the 25 de mayo square of the Central Market, from 10 am to 1 pm, with informative stands, workshops, and a batucada to disseminate and raise awareness of consumer rights along with associations.
The Department of Commerce, Hospitality, Consumption, and Markets, led by councilor Lidia López, explained that «this initiative is organized to provide information so that citizens can acquire knowledge of their rights as consumers and to inform them about the municipal resources available to them.» The Consumption councilor invited citizens to «register and participate to make healthier consumption choices and thus be more protected.»
Father’s Day commerce campaign
Likewise, the City Council is also launching a new campaign this week to promote purchases, give visibility to local commerce, and promote local consumption on the occasion of Father’s Day, which will be celebrated on March 19. The initiative, created in collaboration with the sector and associations, prepares offers and encourages citizens to look for the best gift in local establishments with this campaign that is promoted during these significant commercial dates.
Councilor Lidia López explained that these campaigns are «very important and help to revitalize our local commerce, encouraging through the media and social networks the purchase of goods in neighborhood stores to emphasize the importance of our traditional commerce, thus attracting customers to get to know them with the support of the City Council of Alicante.»
In addition, the Department of Commerce, Markets, and Hospitality designs events and activities throughout the year in squares and neighborhoods, with a dynamization plan that is yielding very good results. Soon, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, and the spring festival will be celebrated. These are direct support measures, along with subsidies to commerce and vouchers that are promoted in the city.
Consumer Days on March 13 and 14
On their part, the Consumer Rights Day events will start on Thursday, March 13, at 10 am, with a conference on Healthy Consumption, to discuss the importance of nutrition, addressing it from a dual perspective of food purchase and consumption and leisure and gastronomy. It will be led by Alba Martínez, Ph.D. in Health Sciences from UA, and Arantzazu Valdés, associate professor in the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Nutrition, and Bromatology at the Faculty of Sciences of UA.
Later, at 11:30 am, there will be a conference on Consumption and Leisure. What consumption in my free time?, to address the consumption of young people in their leisure time, led by Mar Pina, Account Executive at Intermundo Comunicación, and Francisco Vázquez, Chief of the Local Police of Alicante.
Also, on Friday, March 14, there will be a conference at 9:30 am on online consumption and e-commerce, led by Rafael Aura Larios, Computer Engineer, and Alfonso Sanz, Deputy Inspector of the National Police Corps. The program will close with a lecture on Sustainable Consumption. The advantages of the circular economy, which will be given by Isabel Luján and Mayo de Juan Vigara, associate professors at UA.
New Cerca website
On Friday during the events, at 12 pm, the presentation of the new website CERCA.alicante.es created by the City Council to inform Alicante consumers about everything they need to know will take place. Alicante consumers will be able to access all consumption information, resources, register for training activities, and ultimately have all the necessary information to make more responsible consumption choices. The portal presentation will be conducted by Juan Carlos Victoria, head of Cerca, and José Ignacio Orero, Commercial Director of SERNUTEC.
Information Stands in Neighborhoods
This year, the City Council will inform citizens about all the services it provides in terms of consumption, bringing them closer to neighborhoods with stands from the Municipal Consumer Information Office, OMIC, the Educational Resource Center for Consumption in Alicante, CERCA, and the Consumer Arbitration Board, JAC.
For this purpose, informative points will be set up on March 12 at the Felicidad Sánchez and Playas Community Centers, on the 13th, they will be moved to the Teulada and Babel markets, on the 14th to the Isla de Cuba and Giner de los Ríos Community Centers, and on the 15th at the Central Market.
Main Event at the City Hall Square
The main event will take place on March 15 on the occasion of ‘International Consumer Rights Day’ in the 25 de mayo square of the Central Market, from 10 am to 1 pm. It is planned to set up informative booths on consumer rights offered by OMIC, CERCA, JAC, and Consumer Associations, and there will be workshops and entertainment with a Batucada, and Mercalicante will offer a fruit workshop.
