Alicante, June 12, 2025. The City Hall of Alicante has been the scene of the swearing-in of 16 new local police officers who join a workforce of 567 members. The new officers will be mainly assigned to reinforce the beach patrol for this summer. The event was presided over by the mayor of the city, Luis Barcala, accompanied by the Councilor for Security, Julio Calero, and other members of the municipal corporation.
Luis Barcala welcomed the 16 new officers «to one of the most valued services of the City Hall» and pledged «to continue expanding the local police force as the city demands.» The mayor emphasized that «security on our public roads is a plus for Alicante, which is receiving more visitors each day, making it essential to continue improving the human and material resources of the force.»
«Training, preparation, resources, commitment, and pride in belonging to this beloved workforce by the people of Alicante are key elements for your integration,» highlighted Barcala, who recognized the families of the new officers, many of whom were present in the Blue Hall, stating that «families are a very special support for local police officers as they quietly and anonymously play a decisive role in their service to others.»
Workforce, resources, and infrastructure
On the other hand, the Councilor for Security, Julio Calero, highlighted the progress being made in expanding the workforce with these new recruits and upcoming selection processes to incorporate new officers and complete the command structure. The councilor also mentioned the improvement in material and human resources, with the award of a new contract to renew all uniforms and accessories of the different units with an investment exceeding 800,000 euros, completing the renewal of all security equipment with the supply of 250 vests and weapons.
In this regard, he also emphasized the gradual improvement of the vehicle fleet, with the recent addition at the end of last year of nine motorcycles (BMW) and, more recently, 9 SUVs (Ford Cuga), to be joined soon by 6 patrol cars, three off-road vehicles for rural surveillance, and two service vans, totaling about 600,000 euros. Additionally, the Councilor for Security also announced that the contract for the purchase of new vehicles, 27 in total, through a leasing system to keep the fleet of patrol cars modern and regularly renewed every few years, is well advanced.
Calero highlighted the upcoming start of construction to complete the new Local Police Headquarters on Locutor Vicente Hipólito Avenue scheduled for September, after the summer break, with timelines that will allow completion and readiness for the opening of this main building by April, offering better facilities for the organization of service and training of officers.
The councilor emphasized the importance of the Headquarters for the planned reorganization of the Local Police by districts.

Finally, Julio Calero emphasized the work carried out by the Local Police in maintaining security in the city, a matter that received the highest rating among the various aspects queried to cruise ship passengers who arrived in Alicante in 2024, scoring 4.7 out of 5 in over 4,000 surveys conducted.
