A sample from several local schools and the Municipal Elementary Dance Conservatory of Benidorm brought contemporary dance to the streets yesterday at the opening of the fifth edition of the Les Ones Festival, which will offer free shows at Plaça del Castell until Saturday. The initiative, promoted by the Department of Culture of the Benidorm City Council, was born with the idea of «promoting contemporary dance and doing it on the streets, so that residents and tourists of all ages can enjoy it» and doing it, also, «in such emblematic places,» said the councilor of the area, Jaime Jesús Pérez. This year’s edition kicked off yesterday with a contemporary dance performance offered by the dance schools of María José Moya, Lope de Vega, Rosa Martínez, and the Municipal Elementary Conservatory.
Dozens of people filled the space set up in the plaza of SS MM los Reyes de España to watch live this first session of Les Ones, which was also attended by the councilor of Culture and members of the corporation, and in which around fifty dancers performed.
Attendees were able to enjoy the proposals of the schools, which staged different dances that were highly applauded by the audience. The day, which had started in the morning at the Cultural Center with a workshop by ‘Los informalls,’ ended with the performance of ‘Aperitivo’ by the same company in the same plaza of the City Hall, which received applause from the attendees.
Complete program
The program of this fifth edition continues today, Friday 27, with the workshop by Clementine and Lisard at the Cultural Center at 10 am. These workshops are a differential element of Les Ones compared to other events, as they allow dancers from the area to train at home with high-level artists, discover new dynamics, and incorporate movements from different styles. In the afternoon, it will be the turn of the company of Jacob Gómez, who will stage ‘Quema’ at the Plaza del Castell starting at 8:30 pm. After this exhibition, it will be the turn of ‘La mecánica del Infortuni’ by Clementine and Lisard.
The festival will conclude tomorrow, Saturday 28, with the show ‘Dummies’ by the Wako Danza company at 8:30 pm, and at the end of it, the representation of ‘Al Punto’ by «another well-established company, such as Otra Danza by Asun Noales,» will take place.
