The Benidorm City Council has reaffirmed its commitment to effective equality between men and women this Friday, in commemoration of International Women’s Day, celebrated tomorrow, March 8th, in many countries around the world with the aim of advocating for the role of women in our society and advancing real equality of rights between both genders. The square of Their Majesties the Kings of Spain hosted the placement of a banner with a large purple ribbon this afternoon, with which the Benidorm City Council joined this advocacy. The event was attended by the acting mayor, Ana Pellicer, the Equality councilor, Ángela Zaragozí, along with other councilors of the municipal Corporation and representatives of women’s groups in the city.
The activities in Benidorm for March 8th began last Monday and throughout the week have included various events, mostly focused on cultural activities, with the collaboration of different associations. Throughout the week, there have been events such as a women’s empowerment talk by Anémona Marina Baixa; a painting exhibition by the Housewives Association; a meeting to enhance knowledge about the creativity and traditions of Moroccan women organized with the Al Amal Esperanza Benidorm association; a concert by the Canfali Choir of the Housewives Association; and a concert-conference titled ‘Identities’, presented by researchers Rosario Tur and Gema Martínez, accompanied on the piano by María Eugenia Palomares and Marisa Blanes.
The final conference-concert took place yesterday afternoon, Thursday, at the Benidorm City Hall Auditorium, where the speakers gave a historical overview of the legacy of great women in music, science, and society and how they managed to stand out in their respective fields despite the challenges of being a woman in the era they lived in.
Councilor Ángela Zaragozí has mentioned that, in addition to the placement of the advocacy banner this afternoon, fifty Benidorm women will also participate in the XXIV Women’s Meeting of the Marina Baixa, taking place in Polop.
Tomorrow, Saturday, March 8th, Anémona will once again organize the traditional Women’s Convivial Lunch at the Club Náutico restaurant. On Sunday, at 7:00 PM, the play ‘Las Couchers. Sweet Talk Chats’ will be performed as part of the Culture for Equality program at the Benidorm Cultural Center Auditorium.
To attend, it is necessary to have invitations that have been distributed for free on Thursday and Friday to all interested individuals at the Jelena Social Center.
