Benidorm has closed this afternoon the commemorative events of the 285th anniversary of the Discovery of the Mare de Déu that have been celebrated throughout the week. After the Alba procession, at 11.00 in the morning, the Benidorm Musical Union concert took place in the Plaza Mayor in commemoration of this anniversary, which also served as a tribute to Francisco Antón ‘Picorro’.
Under the direction of Rafa Gómez Parra, the Musical Union performed a program composed of music from ‘West side story’ (L. Bernstein), ‘Music from Braveheart’ (J. Horner), ‘Kung Fu Panda Selections’ (H. Zimmer and J. Powell), ‘Titanic’ (J. Horner), and ‘Highlights from Chess’ (B. Ulvaeus and B. Andersson).
In the afternoon, the main Mass in honor of the patron saint of Benidorm was celebrated, an event that was preceded by a parade from the Casa del Fester to the church of Sant Jaume, in which local authorities led by Mayor Toni Pérez, regional deputies Manuel Pérez Fenoll and José Ramón González de Zárate, the queens of the Festes Majors Patronals, Paula Pascual and Aitana Pérez, as well as the presidents of the Comissió and the Associació de Penyes and numerous festive and civic entities of the city participated.
