The operation remains open and further arrests are not ruled out
Officers from the National Police and the Civil Guard, as part of the joint operation ‘Fauda-Northpark’, have dismantled a suspected criminal group accused of committing robberies in homes and agricultural premises in Alicante, Murcia, Albacete, and Granada. So far, 16 people have been arrested in the first two provinces, but the operation remains open with the possibility of new arrests.
Additionally, six searches have been carried out in municipalities in Alicante and Murcia, resulting in the seizure of three cars, jewelry, and watches. The operation has revealed over 145 thefts of items and effects valued at over one million euros, as reported by the Superior Headquarters in a statement.
Based on the exchange of information between both forces regarding several criminal organizations with links and connections among them, the police investigation focused on this criminal group, composed of individuals of Moroccan and Spanish nationality settled in these provinces.
The criminal specialty of this gang was allegedly committing repeated burglaries in chalets, country houses, and agricultural premises, as well as stealing cars — starting them with keys found inside the homes — which they then used to commit further crimes.
The group, based in the Vega Baja area of Alicante and in Murcia, reportedly alternated their geographical scope and extended their criminal activity to other provinces. After committing robberies in areas under the jurisdiction of the Civil Guard, both the armed institute and the National Police joined forces in the operation.
STOLEN CARS
The ‘modus operandi’ of this gang showed similarities that led investigators to believe that the same individuals were committing the robberies, as they typically accessed homes by jumping or breaking the perimeter fence and then forcing a window grille or breaking a door down.
Once inside, the perpetrators stole various items such as electronics, jewelry, money, and personal belongings. Additionally, to carry out the robberies, they allegedly moved from one place to another in vehicles they had previously stolen from other homes.
During each outing, they committed several robberies using the same method of operation; they varied their escape routes to avoid detection and the locations used to deposit the stolen items and later sell them, as indicated by the investigators.
ARRESTS AND OBJECT RECOVERY
With all the information gathered and once the members of the group were located, the operation was carried out, coordinating a large operation between the investigative units of the National Police and the Civil Guard.
As a result, the operation culminated in the arrest of 16 alleged members of the gang, eleven men and five women, of Spanish and Moroccan nationality, ranging in age from 19 to 51, as alleged perpetrators of crimes including burglary, damages, handling stolen goods, and membership of a criminal organization.
The arrests took place in the provinces of Alicante and Murcia, with six simultaneous home searches conducted in the district of La Murada, belonging to Orihuela, and in other towns in Alicante such as Crevillent and San Isidro, as well as in Monteagudo and La Alberca, in Murcia.
During the searches, officers seized a large quantity of tools, jewelry, watches, perfumes, household appliances, a rotary tiller, and power generators. Additionally, they recovered three vehicles stolen with keys taken from burglaries in homes.
All the detainees have been brought before the Orihuela Investigating Court, which ordered the imprisonment of eleven of those arrested.
