El Ayuntamiento de Alicante duplica contrato de mantenimiento de aceras, plazas y espacios públicos

Cristina García emphasizes that «with this new and ambitious contract, we will be able to provide a better service and respond more quickly to the maintenance of the city under the conditions that we all desire.»

Alicante, May 13, 2025. The Alicante City Council doubles the contract for the maintenance of sidewalks, squares, and public spaces after approving on Tuesday that it goes out to tender for eight million euros by the Local Government Board.

The previous contract, from 2021, was awarded for 4.1 million euros, while the one now out for tender foresees a maximum amount of eight million to provide the service for the next four years with the possibility of a one-year extension.

The Councilor for Infrastructure, Cristina García, has highlighted that «with this new and ambitious contract, we will be able to provide a better service and respond more quickly to the maintenance of the city under the conditions that we all desire.» «This is a fundamental service and our goal is to meet the needs and demands of Alicante. Furthermore, both in terms of quantity and volume, it is one of the most important contracts in the Infrastructure Department,» added the councilor.

It is a mixed contract for works and services to carry out maintenance and repair actions on sidewalks, pavements in squares, public spaces, and other complementary elements of municipal public roads. The work will mainly focus on rectifying deficiencies in these spaces, as well as in the different structural and ornamental complementary elements of public roads, while also aiming to improve basic conditions of accessibility and non-discrimination for accessing and using urban public spaces.

Minor incidents such as a broken manhole, a loose curb, or a small section of deteriorated sidewalk that do not require prior study, design, and assessment can be initiated in less than 24 hours. Therefore, the contract stipulates that the awardee must have the necessary equipment to respond to work orders every day of the week. In this regard, the company must always have six active teams with the equipment of vehicles, tools, and small machinery for daily tasks.

In addition, the degree of impact on public road safety of the detected deficiency will be determined, and depending on this, it must be rectified within various deadlines ranging from 4 hours to 15 days.
