The Benidorm City Council, through the Department of Education, has increased the number of minors benefiting from municipal educational reinforcement grants to 230 students during the first semester of 2025. This information was provided by the councilor Maite Moreno, following the final approval of the grant of these aids by the Local Government Board, as well as the payment of a total amount of 69,000 euros.
Moreno explained that this grant program is aimed at students enrolled in the second and third cycles of Primary Education and in Secondary Education, to «reduce the expenses that the families of these students incur in tutoring classes to improve their academic results.» She added that the program has a dual objective: «To collaborate with these households and, in turn, with the educational centers and tutoring academies in our locality to reduce school failure.»
The councilor recalled that «the provisional list of beneficiaries was approved last February, which included 226 minors,» and that this number «has now finally increased to 230 students on the definitive list, after addressing the deficiencies identified in four applications during the initial phase.»
«In any case,» Moreno added, «the number of students benefiting from this aid has increased compared to 2024, both in the initial and final phases, reaching an increase of 8.49% compared to the previous year.» Thus, «in 2024, 212 boys and girls received these grants, while in 2025, the number has increased to 230, reflecting an improvement in the program’s reach and greater coverage among students who need it the most,» the Education representative added.
Lastly, Maite Moreno mentioned that each Primary or Secondary student receiving the aid is granted a monthly municipal contribution of 50 euros to cover their tutoring classes in the various study academies in Benidorm participating in the program, which this year amounted to 16.
She also clarified that «the names of the students to be granted scholarships are proposed by the educational centers where they are enrolled,» and that «the corresponding amount for each student is directly deposited into the academy where they receive their reinforcement classes.»
Finally, the councilor emphasized that «these aids for tutoring classes complement the other subsidies that the Education Department launches each school year to assist the students of Benidorm and their families, such as school transportation, psychopedagogical treatments, or the acquisition of school supplies for the 2nd cycle of Early Childhood Education,» among others.
