San Vicente del Raspeig’s plenary has approved a new designation for the Municipal Football Stadium, which will now be called Estadio Ramón Asensi Juan. The proposal is a popular initiative that was defended during the plenary by José Félix Carbonell, on behalf of the citizens who have requested to rename one of the main sports facilities in the municipality through a letter presented to the City Council.
With the applause of the numerous attending public, all political groups have unanimously endorsed the recognition of the commitment to sports that Ramón Asensi has shown since his youth as a fan and player of El Español de San Vicente, among other teams, and his subsequent involvement in the creation of a football field and Rigas C.F. Club, linked to the Valenciana de Cementos company, of which he was president and coach. After its disappearance, he also participated in the foundation first of Jove Raspeig and, later, F.C. Jove Español de San Vicente, where he has served as secretary.
The Mayor, Pachi Pascual, and the Sports Councilor, Ricardo Bernabeu, have celebrated this gesture of gratitude which, according to the Mayor, «values the work done by Asensi in favor of grassroots sports and the teams that have achieved so much success.» Bernabeu also expressed «pride in recognizing one of the people who has done a lot for football in our municipality and the fruits of his selfless effort that we are reaping today; you just need to see the number of boys and girls playing football in San Vicente del Raspeig.»
Ramón Asensi Juan himself has thanked his family, the citizens, and the entire council for the tribute received and, at 89 years old, has stated that «I am still available for whatever you need.»
Another highlight of the plenary held this afternoon is the new Program Contract that includes an investment of around 1.6 million euros by the Generalitat for this fiscal year and a forecast of around 6.4 million euros for the 4 years covered, until the end of 2028. The Councilor for Social Rights, Mariela Torregrosa, emphasized that with these funds, the continuity of all services provided by the Social Rights department is guaranteed. The investment, supported by the First Vice Presidency and the Ministry of Social Services, establishes lines of collaboration and interadministrative and financial coordination in the field of social services.
At this point, approved with the votes in favor of PP, PSOE, EU-UP, and Compromís and the abstention of Vox, Torregrosa defended the contribution of the Program Contract to carry out programming aimed primarily at the most vulnerable population. The councilor explained that the purpose of the contract is to provide financial stability to the municipal system of social services in terms of services, benefits, and, especially, the professionals who are part of it. The actions developed in the previous contract and the staff will be maintained.
On the other hand, Councilor Pablo Quintana justified Vox’s abstention regarding this framework contract due to the lack of definition on whether the positions included in the future «should be assumed by the City Council as part of its staff, with the evident financial problem that this would entail, and the commitment of investments and the implications of their non-compliance.»
Municipal Contracts
With the favorable vote of the PP and Vox Government team and the Socialist group and the abstention of the rest of the formations, another issue that has been approved is the modification of the contract for cleaning services of municipal buildings to include all sports facilities, including the new Sports Hall. The approved amount is 920,000 euros for the period valid until May 2027.
In the ordinary session of June, the extension of the forced extension of the contract for street cleaning and urban solid waste collection was ratified with the vote of PP and Vox, the opposition of Compromís, and the abstention of PSOE and EU-UP. Unless the new contract, which is in the process of being awarded, is put into operation before, the current one can be extended for a maximum of 5 months in the period between July 1 and November 30, 2025. The maximum amount of this moratorium has been estimated at up to 2.55 million euros.
The Councilor for Contracting, Lourdes Galiana, who explained the last two proposals, has assured that work continues to award the new waste contract «which is already in the final phase.» The Mayor has also emphasized the effort made to expedite this new service and has added that «it is an urgent need for it to come into force as soon as possible because from 2010 to 2025 San Vicente is not the same and, with the current contract, it is impossible for us to have the town as the citizens deserve.»
Also brought to the plenary this afternoon is a credit modification amounting to 143,000 euros to execute the judgment of the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community regarding the previous municipal contract for the maintenance of green spaces and urban trees, which establishes a settlement of 325,000 euros to be borne by municipal funds.
Motion in favor of 25N
In the June plenary session of the San Vicente City Council, two motions presented on the occasion of the International Day of LGTBI Pride have been discussed this afternoon, the first by the PP and the second by EU-UP, PSOE, and Compromís.
After the reasons were presented, only the proposal defended by the Councilor for Social Rights, which includes the text agreed upon by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), was approved. With the support of the PP, the abstention of the opposition parties, and the vote against by Vox, the approved motion reaffirms the municipality’s commitment to equal treatment and respect for the individual freedom of all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, and rejects any form of discrimination, rejection, or violence that attacks personal dignity.
Torregrosa stated that «we will continue to promote actions to educate in respect, because it is the only way to achieve a tolerant society.» The councilor expressed support for promoting awareness actions, organizing an institutional event on June 27 as a public demonstration of support for the LGTBI community, actively collaborating with social entities, or strengthening the role of the technical staff of the Social Rights department for advice and support in case of discrimination, violation of rights, or related issues.
Councilor Isabel Domínguez intervened to clarify the reasons for the rejection of both motions. According to her explanation, for Vox, «all Spaniards, regardless of any personal or social condition or circumstance, are equal before the law and the LGTBI ideology is a failure,» as she also questioned the investment in LGTBI policies.
On the other hand, the joint proposal of PSOE, Compromís, and EU-UP was rejected by the PP and Vox, as well as the motion in support of the liberation of the Palestinian people presented by the Councilor of Esquerra Unida-Unides Podem Alberto Bevià.
