The Councilor of Commerce, Lidia López, highlighted that «within the framework of Alicante’s gastronomic capital, we organize this competition to recognize the great work carried out by our bakers and pastry chefs, thus giving visibility to the sector.»
Alicante, March 27, 2025. Alicante celebrates this Saturday the Provincial Easter Cake Contest of the city, to promote and enhance the traditional Easter cake, an event that will take place during the commercial revitalization day organized on La Era street by the City Council. Two categories have been established in this competition: the ‘Traditional Easter Cake’ and the ‘Innovative-Freestyle Easter Cake’ with gluten and gluten-free options, rewarding creativity and quality.
The Councilor of Commerce and Hospitality, Lidia López, emphasized that «within the framework of Alicante’s gastronomic capital, we organize this competition to recognize and enhance the great work carried out by our bakers and pastry chefs, thus giving visibility to the sector, and at the same time promoting a traditional product that is highly appreciated and crafted by our artisan bakeries.»
The Easter cakes must be made with high-quality natural ingredients, and bakeries and pastry shops that wish to participate from Alicante and the province must register in one or more categories.
This Saturday, the jury composed of master bakers and pastry chefs, representatives of Facpyme, and experts in traditional gastronomy and pastry, will taste the Easter cakes, rewarding both the flavor and texture, the quality of the dough, originality and creativity, as well as innovative design, presentation, and respect for tradition, using traditional ingredients and techniques.
Commercial revitalization with activities, concerts, and workshops
The competition will take place on La Era street, where starting at 10:30 a.m., the commercial revitalization day organized by the Council of Commerce, Hospitality, Markets, and Consumption of the Alicante City Council is scheduled to take place.
During this morning, there are planned shows, workshops, and activities. Additionally, there will be a concert with live music by the duo ‘Billy Mandanga,’ consisting of Iván Serrano and his partner Kevin Mendes.
On this day, families can enjoy a fun morning while supporting our local businesses and making purchases in a festive atmosphere with entertainment. This event aims to strengthen, as Councilor Lidia López stated, «the economic and commercial fabric of our city by promoting an initiative that stimulates purchases and attracts new customers.»
The Easter Cake Contest has been organized by the Guild of Bakers and Pastry Chefs of the Province of Alicante, the Provincial Guild of Artisan Pastry Chefs of Alicante, the Alicante Federation of Commerce and Small and Medium Enterprises – Facpyme -, and is carried out in collaboration with the Alicante City Council.
