The official jury of the Hogueras and Barracas de San Vicente del Raspeig Festivities has announced this morning the names of the two builders of the official adult and children’s monuments. Eliot Garcia is the artist chosen for the adult bonfire, and Juan José Sevilla and José Luis Prieto will be in charge of the design and assembly of the children’s bonfire.
The Councilor for Festivities, Cristian Gil, explained that «it was a difficult decision as there were several proposals, and although they all had common points, the winning proposals stand out for certain details that we believe will make them unique.»
Both selected builders have a long history in the field. On the one hand, artist Eliot Garcia has created monuments in the town on several occasions, both the official children’s monument and adult works for different San Vicente commissions, including last year’s for the Hoguera Lillo Juan, which won first prize in the children’s category.
The sketch presented by the young San Vicente resident, whose workshop is located in the municipality, will have a height exceeding eight meters. The bonfire construction will reference the history of San Vicente del Raspeig and its festivities, providing a general image of their idiosyncrasy and development.
The children’s bonfire will once again be in the hands of Juan José Sevilla and José Luis Prieto (Sevior & Prior Arts). Both are familiar with the festivities of San Vicente del Raspeig as this responsibility has been entrusted to them since 2022.
This time, their monument will be around two and a half meters high. Additionally, it will present a theme similar to the Adult Bonfire, focusing on San Vicente del Raspeig, its festivities, and its most emblematic monuments, but without losing the more childlike perspective.
Gil wanted to thank all the artists who submitted proposals for «their commitment to our town and to festivals that have become a reference in the province, as reflected in the sketches presented.»
The responsible councilor added, «the bonfire projects finally chosen perfectly meet our expectations for this year’s official bonfires, as they meet the aesthetic requirements we had and include numerous references to San Vicente.»
The jury responsible for selecting the artists was composed of the Mayor of San Vicente del Raspeig, Pachi Pascual, the Councilors for Festivities, Cristian Gil, and for Intervention, Isabel Domínguez, the president of the Federación de Fogueres y Barraques de Sant Vicent, Mercedes Lillo, the president of the Gremio de Artistas de Alicante, Joaquín Rubio, José Hernández, representing clothing and festival tradition, and José Cerezo, representing the world of fine arts. Also in attendance representing the municipality were councilors Asunción París from the PSOE, Natalia Jerez, from EU-UP, and Maribel Morera, from Compromís. Additionally, the municipal technician José María Ruiz was present.
