The Municipal Housing Trust of the City Council of Alicante has handed over the keys to 23 social rental homes, «the first ones after the process of reform and dynamization of the mechanisms that govern the municipal housing pool to keep it permanently accessible to citizens and promote turnover.»
Between March 27 and April 1, contracts for the rental of 23 of the 25 units awarded have been formalized, as two beneficiaries have withdrawn for personal reasons, as reported by the city council in a statement.
The General Board of the Housing Trust on February 28, 2025, agreed to award 25 social rental homes, of which three belong to the municipal emancipation program for young people, eight to the general rental program, two to the intergenerational rental program for young people, and 12 to the intergenerational rental program for seniors.
The councilor and president of the Housing Trust, Carlos de Juan, has been present at the key handover ceremony and has wished the beneficiaries «that the homes meet all their expectations,» while reaffirming his «commitment» and that of the Trust to the tenants. «The relationship goes beyond the contractual and is based on a human bond,» he emphasized.
RENTAL FEE
The rent for these Trust homes ranges from 120.78 to 299.01 euros, including community expenses. Most of them have one bedroom. The average usable area of the homes is 50.28 square meters (m2), and their average price including these expenses is 218.21 euros.
«First, we proceeded to reform the municipal housing pool, which was occasionally open to applicants temporarily, to introduce a dynamic and permanently open system where applicants only need to submit a responsible declaration of meeting the requirements to access social rental. Now, we are delivering the first allocations from the permanent offer consisting of 25 homes, from this new open and accessible housing pool, in its various social rental programs, aimed at young people and intergenerational groups, as well as affordable rentals,» he stated.
He added: «This government team led by Mayor Luis Barcala has committed to promoting the construction of over 6,000 homes in the city through land release and activation of urban plans, of which 33 percent, around 2,000, will be allocated to protected housing.»
«The Trust is promoting new developments aimed at social rental, with a priority for the emancipation of young people, including the completion of 15 homes in El Portón for 1.4 million, in the Old Town; the upcoming rehabilitation of 14 more in the former teachers’ housing in San Gabriel, and the new construction of a block of 32 apartments on Ceuta Street in San Blas, as well as making various plots available to the Generalitat for the construction of protected housing through the Vive Plan,» he emphasized.
The councilor also highlighted that the Housing Trust of Alicante «is the only entity with these competencies among the municipalities of the Valencian Community that manages 746 units in different social rental schemes, in addition to the 510 corresponding to the affordable rental program for individuals who trust this municipal entity for its management.»
