Alcoy faces a weekend marked by sports activity with three prominent events that reinforce the city’s role as a sports promotion reference.
As highlighted by the Sports Councillor, Alberto Belda, «it’s a weekend that showcases Alcoy’s commitment to sports, from high-level competitions to popular and family activities. We have facilities ready to host major events, but also to provide quality services to the citizens.»
ALCOY, HOST OF THE SPANISH ARTISTIC SKATING CHAMPIONSHIP – SOLO DANCE
From June 12 to 14, the Mutua Levante Pavilion at the Francisco Laporta Sports Center will host the XII Spanish Artistic Skating Championship – Solo Dance, in the alevín, infant, and cadet categories. The event includes the participation of around 150 people including athletes and technical staff from 14 autonomous communities.
The organization is led by the Santa Rosa Artistic Skating Club and the Alcoy City Council, with the collaboration of the Valencian Skating Federation. Alcoy skater Gerard Torró, bronze medalist last year in the infant category, competes this year as a cadet in a competition that will be crucial to secure a spot in the European Championship.
Alberto Belda emphasized that «once again, Alcoy hosts a top-level sports event that combines competitive excellence with a positive impact on the city, both from a tourism and economic perspective.»
RELÁMPAGO TOURNAMENT
On Saturday, June 14, and Sunday, June 15, a new edition of the local lightning football tournament will take place, a consolidated event that marks the end of the season for infant, cadet, and senior teams. The preliminary base phase will be held on Saturday at the Francisco Laporta Sports Center, while the semifinals and finals will be played on Sunday at the El Collao Municipal Field.
This year, due to ongoing works on Oliver Street, access to the stands and parking in that area will be closed. Both athletes and spectators must enter through the Lateral area, and players will access the dressing rooms located in Gol B.
The Sunday schedule is as follows:
- 08:45 am and 09:30 am: Cadet category semifinals
- 10:15 am and 11:00 am: Infant category semifinals
- 11:45 am: Cadet final
- 12:30 pm: Infant final
- 4:00 pm: Start of the senior tournament, with seven teams participating
Matches every 40 minutes until the grand final at 7:20 pm
Belda emphasized that «Relámpago is more than just a tournament. It’s a local football celebration, an opportunity for young people to experience playing at El Collao, and a space for interaction among fans, families, and clubs.»
START OF THE SEASON AT MUNICIPAL POOLS
Starting today, Friday, June 13, the municipal pools in Alcoy are open for enjoyment. The José Trenzano Alós, Caramanxel Juan Agudo Garat, Batoi, and San Vicente de Paúl school pools are operational. The Preventorio pool will open soon. All facilities will be open daily from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm until September 7.
In recent months, various improvements have been made: general repainting, expansion of shaded areas, and the installation of a new ladder in the Batoi pool. Additionally, inflatable water activities will return on Thursdays in July at the José Trenzano Alós pool. On these days, entry will be free in the morning for under 16s.
Entry remains free every day for children aged 0 to 5, and for individuals over 65 on Mondays. Multi-swim and seasonal passes with significant discounts can also be purchased.
Belda highlighted that «the pools are one of the most appreciated summer services by the citizens. We have worked to offer comfortable, safe, and attractive facilities, as well as to facilitate access for all ages and groups, with affordable prices and family-friendly activities.»
OTHER HIGHLIGHTED ACTIVITIES
It’s also worth noting that on Saturday evening, starting at 8:30 pm, a boxing event organized by the Valencian Boxing Federation and Club Barrull will take place at the Amando Blanquer Auditorium. Additionally, on Saturday from 8:00 pm, the trophy presentation for the local petanque league will be held at the Muntanyesos filà.
On Saturday morning, CD Vedruna will organize a sports day at the Francisco Laporta Sports Center. On Sunday morning, the NB Alcoy club will hold the «Club’s Morning» at the Mutua Levante Pavilion. In the Sunday afternoon, the Alcoy Artistic Skating Club will present its end-of-season gala at the Miguel Sarasa Pavilion.
