The twentieth edition of the Costa Blanca Cup Futsal kicked off last night at the Benidorm Palace with the inaugural parade of all participating teams in a competition that grows every year and acquires an «absolutely international» character, as stated by the tournament director, Fernando Brotons.
Over these 20 years, 1,050 teams from 25 different countries have participated in the competition. In fact, in this 2025 edition, 97 teams from 11 different countries and over a thousand players are competing since this morning. Thus, up to 38 foreign teams, 37 Spanish teams from outside the Valencian Community, and another 22 Valencian participants have arrived at the different venues of the Marina Alta and Baixa.
On an international level, the return of Brazil, a futsal powerhouse, after several years is noteworthy. Quantitatively, there will be a significant presence of teams from France, Spain, England, and Belgium in Europe. Also, for the first time in futsal, the United States will participate, and the involvement of teams from countries like Taiwan, Lebanon, and Venezuela is significant.
Yesterday, after 9:30 pm, the opening ceremony of this twentieth edition began with the parade of all participating teams one by one in an atmosphere filled with fun and vibrant colors. Following a contemporary dance performance and a laser show, the audience got a glimpse of the special trophy designed for the occasion.
Before concluding, Mayor Toni Pérez addressed the attendees, especially the players and coaches. He emphasized that this is «the most international edition in the history of the Costa Blanca Cup Futsal» and stated, «It is made possible by the teams participating, who demonstrate at all times that sports are universal, transcending borders and speaking a unique language.» Pérez expressed his wish for them to have «the best of luck, enjoy these days, and may the competition bring you joy and learning.» He also affirmed that the athletes and coaches «are the true protagonists» and assured that «we will go all out to make your experience unique. Days of fun, sports, and leisure with your teammates, coaches, and families.» The mayor concluded by emphasizing that «in Benidorm, you have your home, and if you want to come back after the tournament, we await you with open arms.»
