Barcala visits the works in the company of Mazón and highlights that «the Consell and Alicante demonstrate with facts and real actions how to address a problem like housing, which is a national emergency.»
Alicante, April 4, 2025. The neighborhood of Rabasa in Alicante is hosting the construction of the first affordable rental housing development under the Vive Plan of the Generalitat Valenciana, in collaboration with the City Council of Alicante. The project is already underway for the construction of 34 townhouses (including two accessible units) with high-quality finishes and high energy efficiency, indoor garage, and common spaces such as a sports court, rest area, and children’s play area.
The project has an investment of over 2.8 million euros, and it is expected that the works will be completed within 24 months. The plot where the buildings will be constructed covers 4,987 square meters with a usable area for housing of 3,955 square meters. Out of these 34 new homes, 14 (40%) are reserved for young people and single-parent families.
The homes are being built on two plots in Rabasa on Vasco de Gama Street and will have a usable area of 90 square meters with a rental price well below market value, starting from 580 euros per month, «and very high levels of quality and sustainability,» as stated by Jeffrey Sújar, CEO of the construction company Urbania-Vivasal, during a visit to the works, attended by Mayor Luis Barcala and the President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón.
Barcala has emphasized that this initial project in Rabasa, which will be followed by new developments for the construction of another 117 homes in the neighborhood, «demonstrates the real commitment of the Consell of Carlos Mazón and the City Council of Alicante to address a national emergency problem such as housing.»
The mayor has pointed out that the City Council is fully engaged in «the current housing mandate» through various avenues of action such as private promotion «with the creation of new neighborhoods in Lomas de Garbinet, La Albufereta, and the future Central Park,» where more than 3,400 apartments are being built, «with a 40% reservation for public protection housing.»
Likewise, in the realm of public promotion, he has highlighted the «close» collaboration with the Generalitat for the development of the Vive Plan through the transfer of eight plots, like those in Rabasa, for the construction of new developments, while also highlighting the City Council’s projects in social housing policy for rental housing for young people in El Portón (15), San Gabriel (14), and social rental housing in general in San Blas (32) that are in the bidding phase for 3.5 million euros.
Youth Rental Bonus and Rehabilitation Projects
Barcala has also mentioned the implementation of the Youth Rental Bonus to facilitate emancipation and, in the rehabilitation section, has recalled the actions to renovate 288 homes in Virgen del Remedio and those carried out by the Generalitat in the neighborhood of Miguel Hernández. «The Municipal Housing Board manages 748 social housing units through its rental programs and is a reference in our Community,» emphasized the mayor, who stressed that with actions like the one in Rabasa, «problems affecting people are solved; not with announcements and smoke, as left-wing governments do in this Community and in Spain.»
