Refuerzo de servicios en playas de Benidorm para Semana Santa

Benidorm’s beaches are already prepared for the start of Easter Week, the first major holiday of the year which, starting this weekend, will bring thousands of tourists to the city to enjoy these festive days. The Beach Councilor, Mónica Gómez, announced today that the City Council and the beach management entity have designed a special cleaning, lifeguard, and beach security operation for this important tourist event. She also mentioned that «as usual, all these services will be reinforced to accommodate the expected occupancy levels on our beaches during these days.»

Mónica Gómez emphasized that «Benidorm’s beaches are among the few in the Spanish coast that have lifeguard and cleaning services all year round, services that are enhanced or reinforced for Easter Week and summer to meet the high demand they always experience during these peak seasons.» Specifically, for this first major tourist event of the year, the special operation will cover the period from April 12 to 27, coinciding with school holidays and public holidays in the various autonomous communities of our country, with special focus between April 17 and 21, when holidays align across all regions.

Regarding lifeguard services, the operating hours will be extended from 10:00 to 19:00, with five lifeguards at Poniente beach, another five at Levante beach, and one at Mal Pas beach. Additionally, there will be two exclusive ambulances for the beaches, one at Levante and one at Poniente, each equipped with a nurse and an emergency technician, as well as a first aid station with nursing staff. This setup will be complemented by a watercraft with a lifeguard and a skipper at sea, and a coordinator and beach manager on land.

During Easter Week, the city’s three accessible beach points, located at Calle Murcia (Levante), Elche Park, and La Cala, will be operational from 10:30 to 14:30 to facilitate bathing for people with mobility issues. Each of these points will have two lifeguards, as detailed by Councilor Mónica Gómez.

In terms of security, the Benidorm City Council will also increase police presence on the beaches and surrounding areas during the specified dates, with an additional fourteen officers per day in different shifts, reinforcing the control and surveillance efforts. Specifically, there will be four officers in the 10:00 to 18:00 shift, an officer and three officers in the 18:00 to 02:00 shift, and an officer and five officers in the night shift from 22:00 to 06:00, deployed between Thursday, April 17, and Monday, April 21.

Additionally, the Local Police boat will be operational, complementing the tasks performed by the beach management company’s boat, with a patrol car stationed at Levante and Poniente beaches at all times. These efforts will be complemented by reinforcements planned by the National Police for the same dates.

As for cleaning services, human resources will be increased to twenty individuals, with enhanced manual collection frequency, including afternoon, evening, and Pelican boat shifts. There will be three manual cleaning shifts at the three beaches, morning, afternoon, and evening, with a total of eleven, two, and six operators, respectively. This will be supplemented by mechanical cleaning with tractors and sifters, carried out entirely at night between 21:00 and 04:20, with the participation of four additional operators.

The Councilor noted that all additional services mentioned aim to «guarantee the safety of residents and tourists, reinforcing attention at strategic points and ensuring a rapid response to any emergency,» and expressed her wish for beach activities during these days to «proceed smoothly, without incidents, and allow all users to enjoy our most precious asset, the beaches.»

Improvement Works

Finally, the Beach Councilor highlighted that during the low season, «taking advantage of the lower influx of people to the beaches, various maintenance and improvement works have been carried out at numerous points, as well as the traditional intensive cleaning of the beaches» and other actions to enhance the condition and image of our coast.

These include sand movement and reduction in highly accumulated areas, extension of boardwalks, cleaning, disinfection, and painting of foot showers, painting and adaptation of lifeguard huts, as well as maintenance pruning of oases at Levante and Poniente beaches. Additionally, Mónica Gómez mentioned that «the City Council continues to expand and promote the recycling of beach items among users,» a program implemented last summer at Levante beach, for which a new collection point has been set up at Elche Park to encourage the deposit and reuse of items such as umbrellas, mats, buckets, shovels, chairs, and other articles for use by other beachgoers.
