The Government team will approve a modification of the 2025 municipal Budget on April 30 to increase investments with over 27.5 million euros from the Treasury surplus. The mayor, Pachi Pascual, and the Intervention councilor, Pablo Quintana, have confirmed that the municipality will have over 88 million euros in total, taking into account the Budget approved last January and the new addition of funds that raises investments to 33.4 million.
Pachi Pascual has defined the 60 projects driven by the surpluses as «a clear statement of intentions that shows we are fulfilling the roadmap we committed to making a reality with all the residents of San Vicente, marked by two guidelines: improving services to citizens and responsible investment in necessary infrastructures and facilities for a city of over 60,000 inhabitants, where we must also bear in mind the university population of around 30,000 people.»
Pascual has stated that with these budgets, «we are on the verge of starting projects that have been stuck for years, including highlighting the much-requested municipal pool.» The mayor referred to the 4 million euros allocated to technical assistance and construction of the complex known as Phase II of the Water Center.
Another emblematic project included is the modification of the future cultural center of La Yesera, funded with 270,000 euros, which will allow redefining a new modern and suitable space for the current needs of the city and, from there, requesting the necessary funding to carry it out from other administrations.
In terms of Infrastructure, the mayor detailed funds for the pedestrianization of Picasso Street and access to the historic center, with 764,000 euros, the conditioning of Villafranqueza Street and access to Mayor Street, with budgets of almost 3.6 and 3.2 million euros respectively, or the redevelopment of Olivos promenade, Jazmines Street, and surrounding areas, with 1.1 million. According to Pascual, «these works are a true catalyst for the transformation and revitalization of highly trafficked roads and to start the process towards a more sustainable and walkable city model, with greater emphasis on pedestrians.»
Following the same urban improvement policy, an investment of one million euros has been considered for children’s parks and bio-healthy spaces and an amount exceeding 1.7 million euros for the implementation of the first road and public space conditioning plan and the road paving program committed by the mayor. It also includes projects for the reform and improvement of the underpass of the train tracks, the Francisco Santa Orts, Aviación, and Maestro Chapí squares, and the buildings on Cervantes Street, Adolfo Suárez Park, and Urban Gardens of the La Borinquen neighborhood, with a total cost of around 210,000 euros.
Other notable interventions include the construction of a municipal animal shelter, with an investment of over a million euros, followed by the Almazara public lighting project, with a million euros. The mayor described the planned action on the Festa site to establish a new green area, asphalt, and connection to water and electricity networks, all for an amount of 535,000 euros. The installation of solar panels in municipal buildings will continue, with a reserved budget of 377,000 euros. Other facilities where improvements are planned for nearly half a million euros include the two buildings housing the Local Police and Civil Protection and the Civil Guard.
Regarding sports facilities, there are over 6.5 million euros in the surpluses to be used for, among other actions, the adaptation of the southern sports complex, with a million euros; the improvement of the changing rooms at the Ginés Alenda Pavilion, with 710,000 euros; the replacement of artificial turf at the municipal stadium and paddle courts, with 300,000 euros; or the projects for the soccer field on Aeroplano Avenue, funded with 105,000 euros, and for the covering of the blue sports court, with nearly 70,000 euros.
In terms of Security, there is a budget of 700,000 euros for traffic control cameras. The Intervention councilor explained that «this equipment aims to improve traffic and safety with a camera circuit» and emphasized that there will also be resources to serve the elderly and promote the family.
Pablo Quintana has stated that the surpluses will drive «the beginning of a new San Vicente with the highest budgets in its history, close to 90 million euros, which bet on a change in the city, linked to fiscal policy with the reduction of the Property Tax (IBI).» The Intervention head assured that the investment is carried out «in a responsible manner with projects already approved and planned that make us very optimistic regarding the level of compliance in the remainder of 2025 and 2026.»
Furthermore, the mayor also detailed other items «that, although not significant in number, open the door to new projects such as the 50,000 euros for the demolition and drafting of a future social center project on Balmes Street.» Also, for the improvement of the Auditorium, 250,000 euros will be allocated for scenic equipment and 60,000 euros for the Fiestas hall project.
The presentation of the surpluses that will be brought to the next ordinary session, held this morning, was also attended by the spokespersons of the two Government team groups, Mercedes Torregrosa for the PP and Adrián García for Vox, as well as the councilors of Tax Management, Isabel Domínguez, and Culture and Human Resources, Óscar Lillo.
