Alicante, June 16, 2025.- The Calasancio School has received on Monday, in the Blue Hall of the Alicante City Hall, the first prize in the youth category of the 19th School Bonfires Contest, with ‘Languages, a shared treasure’, as it did last year with ’10 years planting illusion’. It takes a tour through the main monuments of the languages taught at the educational center – Spanish, Valencian, English, and French. The children from CEIP Juan XXIII-Médico Pedro Herrero have once again won the first place from last year with ‘A door to my world’, which alludes to the magic of books and reading.
The IES Figueras Pacheco-Bacarot has received the ‘Manuel Porras’ trophy for the best design and composition, for ‘Igniting ideas, illuminating the future’, a bonfire that relates fire to different sustainable development goals. In the children’s category, this trophy has gone to the Jesuits Educational Foundation-Centro Este with ‘The tree of life’, representing how all students are connected by an invisible thread.
Second and third prizes
The students of CEIP Cañada del Fenollar have received the second prize in the children’s category for the bonfire ‘La Cañada around the world’, which describes Willy Fogg’s adventures on his journey around the world; and the third prize has been awarded to the students of CEIP Pedro Duque with ‘The world at CEIP Pedro Duque’, created with the intention of getting to know and bring students closer to the various cultures that coexist in the educational center.
CEIP Benalúa has obtained the second youth prize with ‘Discover infinite worlds and fly with The Little Prince’. This bonfire calls for working on values such as friendship, responsibility, empathy, or caring for others. The third prize has gone to the AMPA CEIP-Mediterráneo with ‘Lights, camera, fun’, a magical journey through the world of cinema.
The Councilor for Festivities, Cristina Cutanda, in assessing what the contest represents, has highlighted the «affection and effort of the schools in promoting the bonfires from the grassroots, emphasizing traditions, and making a call to values through this ephemeral art. All this, with proposals based on originality.» The first prizes include the ‘Pedro Soriano’ trophy, a pennant, and a school supplies package valued at 250 euros; the second prizes include a pennant and a package of 150 euros; and the third prizes include a pennant and a package of 100 euros.
Bonfire Decree
Cutanda, at the conclusion of the awards ceremony, unveiled the 2025 Bonfire Decree located on the facade of the new Alicante City Hall building. She did so accompanied by the Belleas del Foc -Adriana Vico and Valentina Tárraga-, and the president of the Federació de Fogueres. In it, as explained by the mayor, Luis Barcala invites people to experience the Bonfires «making Alicante a point of reference for coexistence among people.» The text also makes a call for «a shared exercise of responsibility so that the Bonfires of 2025 are remembered as an unforgettable citizen meeting point.»
The pieces of the Official Bonfire
The set of elements that make up the official bonfire ‘Identity’, designed by Pedro Espadero, will arrive in the early hours of Tuesday at the Town Hall Square. The eight long trailer trucks will depart from the artist’s workshop, located in Pla de la Vallonga, escorted by the Local Police. The assembly of parts of the structure will be done throughout Tuesday morning so that in the afternoon, according to forecasts, the finishing touch can be placed. On Wednesday the 18th, according to Espadero’s forecasts, 95% of the planting work will have been completed, which will finish a day later.
On the same day, before the start of the first competition mascletà, Sergio Gómez will have completed the planting of H2O, the official children’s bonfire, «so that the children from the bonfires can come to see it before going to the Luceros square,» explained the artist. Pirotecnia Crespo, from Alzira, will open (2:00 pm) the 35th Mascletà Contest in the Luceros Square.
