The countdown to the Patron Saint Festivities and Moors and Christians in San Vicente del Raspeig begins with the presentation of the herald. The mayor, Pachi Pascual, has confirmed that it will be Sebastián Sánchez who will kick off the celebrations on April 25th from the balcony of the old Town Hall.
In the year that marks half a century since the beginning of the Moors and Christians festivities, Pascual has highlighted that Sánchez «will play an important representative role on behalf of the 33 founders, and among them, he is the only one who has never missed a parade in these 50 years in the ranks of his comparsa, Moros Viejos.»
The mayor, accompanied by the Head of Festivities, Cristian Gil, also supported the presenter of the Festivities Book, Paquita Asensi, in an event held yesterday afternoon, following the traditional ‘Meeting of Queens’, where the municipal Auditorium reached full capacity with institutional representatives and members of the Festivities, associative, and cultural local movement.
Pascual emphasized the contribution of the former councilwoman, who returns to the forefront «as a representative of the essence of Festivities declared of Touristic Interest in the Valencian Community thanks to her and a key figure since the origins of the Moors and Christians.» Gil also highlighted the contributions of Paquita Asensi. «Throughout a lifetime dedicated to the Festivities, achievements such as the Castle, the Festivity House, the colorful entrance of Jaume I, the recovery of activities like the figure of ‘Sanvicentet,’ or the representation of Els Miracles, endorse her.»
Paquita Asensi described the book of the Patron Saint Festivities and Moors and Christians as «a gift to the memory of a town.» Along with the audience, she went through the pages of a carefully edited edition that starts with the text of the joys in honor of Sant Vicent Ferrer, the image of the patron saint, greetings from authorities, positions, and top representatives of the Festivity, and the event program for the year 2025. The volume also includes memories from 2024, the trajectory of all comparsas, and a chapter dedicated to literary notes. In ‘Poble i Fiesta,’ other representatives of the Festivity, society, and the culture of San Vicente participate, and as the last section, in ‘In Memoriam,’ a special tribute is paid to well-known individuals linked to the history, Festivities, and popular traditions of San Vicente.
